The Clarkston High School Wrestling Team is powered by a dedicated and experienced coaching staff committed to the growth and success of every athlete. Our coaches bring years of expertise, a passion for the sport, and a deep commitment to fostering both the athletic skills and personal character of our wrestlers. Whether you're an experienced competitor or stepping onto the mat for the first time, our coaches are here to support, challenge, and guide you through every practice and match.

Brian Gibbs
Head Coach
Entering his 9th season as Head Wrestling Coach at Clarkston High School, Brian Gibbs has built a legacy of excellence both on and off the mat. Under his leadership, the team has achieved remarkable success, including 3 Regional Championships, 5 League Championships, and District titles every year of his tenure. Coach Gibbs has also guided Clarkston to 30 individual state finals appearances, producing 3 state champions in the process.

In both 2023 & 2024, Coach Gibbs was honored with the Michigan Wrestling Association Regional Wrestling Coach of the Year award, a testament to his dedication, skill, and impact on the sport. His passion for developing athletes extends beyond high school, as many of his wrestlers have continued their careers at the collegiate level, with several committing to programs such as Grand Valley State University. He is also instrumental in giving his athletes national exposure, traveling with them to major events across the country.

Before his coaching career, Coach Gibbs was a standout wrestler at Bedford High School, which led to a successful collegiate wrestling career at Michigan State University. His commitment to his athletes and to the sport is unmatched, as he continues to push Clarkston wrestling to new heights.

When he's not coaching or traveling with the team, Coach Gibbs enjoys spending time on the golf course, swinging the clubs with his wife, Brooke. His unwavering dedication to the sport and his community makes him a true leader and a pillar of the Clarkston wrestling program.
Ty Foltz
Assistant Coach
Coach Ty Foltz’s roots in the Clarkston community run deep, making him an invaluable part of the Clarkston Wrestling Program. A proud graduate of the Class of 2011, Coach Foltz carries on the wrestling legacy started by his father, a long-time coach in the community. With 13 years of coaching experience, he continues to guide and inspire wrestlers, helping them grow both on the mat and in life.

In 2018, Coach Foltz was honored with the Michigan Wrestling Association Regional Assistant Coach of the Year award, recognizing his exceptional coaching and dedication to his athletes. Outside of his role as an assistant coach, he is also a teacher at Clarkston Middle School, strengthening his ties to the local community. Though his young son isn’t yet old enough for the wrestling room, it’s clear the Foltz family’s legacy in the sport will live on for many years, with Coach Ty remaining a vital part of the wrestling program for the foreseeable future.

Coach Foltz’s commitment to the team, his family, and the community is evident in everything he does, and his contributions have played a crucial role in the ongoing success of the Clarkston wrestling program.
Jake Spiess
Assistant Coach
Coach Jake Spiess brings a wealth of experience and a championship pedigree to the Clarkston Wrestling Program. A native of Delta, Ohio, Jake was a standout wrestler in high school, earning the title of 3x Ohio State Champion for Delta High School, with a third-place finish as a sophomore. His accolades continued at the national level, as he became a Senior National Champion and a Fargo All-American, cementing his reputation as one of the top wrestlers in the country.

Jake’s wrestling journey continued at both Eastern Michigan University (EMU) and Michigan State University (MSU), where he further honed his skills and knowledge of the sport. Now, as an assistant coach, he brings that same level of expertise and passion to the Clarkston program, helping to develop the next generation of wrestlers.

In addition to his coaching role, Jake is the owner of Home Pro Roofing, a business that has been a major supporter of the Clarkston Wrestling Program as a "Pin" level sponsor for many years. His dedication to both the sport and the community is evident, and with a young child, it’s clear that Jake’s involvement with the club will continue for many years to come.

Coach Spiess’s combination of wrestling accomplishments, business acumen, and commitment to the Clarkston wrestling community makes him an invaluable asset to the team.
Dave Dolehanty
Assistant Coach
Coach Dave Dolehanty brings both experience and dedication to the Clarkston Wrestling Program. A graduate of Waterford Kettering High School, Dave continued his wrestling career at Alma College, where he developed a strong foundation in the sport. Now entering his 4th season with the Clarkston Wrestling team, Coach Dolehanty is committed to helping athletes grow and succeed both on and off the mat.

In addition to his role as an assistant coach, Coach Dolehanty is part of the teaching team Sashabaw Middle School, allowing him to be a constant presence for the wrestlers, not just during practices and matches, but throughout the school day as well. His daily interactions with the athletes in the hallways further strengthen his bond with the team, and his investment in their success goes beyond the wrestling room.

Grant Ankney
Assistant Coach
Coach Grant Ankney brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the Clarkston Wrestling Program as he enters his 3rd season with the team. A three-time All-State honoree at Holt High School, Grant helped lead the Rams to three league titles and a state championship in 2008. His high school career also included four district championships, two regional championships, and an impressive victory at the 2005 Brute Adidas National Championship. Additionally, Grant was the runner-up at the 2007 Tournament of Champions, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top wrestlers in the nation.

After high school, Coach Ankney continued his wrestling career at Michigan State University, where he further developed his skills and knowledge of the sport. His experience as both a high school and collegiate athlete brings valuable insight to the Clarkston program, where he now serves as an assistant coach, helping to develop the next generation of wrestlers.
